Why I Am Running for Broome County Legislator District 2

I started this campaign because I believe a better voice needs to represent the Towns of Kirkwood, Windsor and Sanford (District 2) in the Broome County Legislature.  Steve Herz has had two unopposed elections for this position.  While I agree with Steve on his favor of Natural Gas Exploration and his stance on agriculture, I strongly disagree with him on his votes in the Broome County Legislature.  Steve has repeatedly voted to increase tax to our residents and drive up the debt that has crippled Broome County Government.  It is my goal to return the 50% of county sales tax revenue to the towns where it rightfully belongs.  It is also my goal to be open and accessible to my constituents and work with Debbie Preston and the Republican Majority to enact changes to the way this County does business that will enhance the lives of our residents.

Its my desire to serve the people of NY and represent their interests at the local, county level.  As an elected official, I believe there is more work to do in reducing debt, elimating taxes and ensuring that the towns of Broome County have the 50% of the County Sales tax returned for their use.  Pensions have to be dealt with and smaller government is the key to a strong, economically vibrant Broome County.

Scott looks forward to your thoughts, comments and criticisms. Start the dialog by sending us a message.

Sincerely yours,

Scott Baker

On this Halloween, please everyone, be careful.  Thoughts and Prayers go out to those effected by Hurricane Sandy.  We here in Broome County know how difficult it is to deal with natural disasters.  Pray for the Emergency Service workers who are dealing with this devestaion.  Several from Broome County are there now doing what they can to help out.

Don't forget, Election Day is Next Tuesday.  Be sure to get out and Vote!

I've been out this last week knocking on Independent's doors and intoducing myself. I was nice to this with Executive Debbie Preston on Tuesday evening.

I was also able to get several campaign signs posted.  If you would like to post one in your yard, please contact me.

I am happy to announce that I have been endorsed by the Conservative and Independent parties and that I will appear on both of their lines, along with the Republican ticket on the ballot on Nov. 6th.

Scott Baker Announces Run for Broome County Legislator District 2

Scott Baker announced today that he will run for Broome County Legislature this Fall in the new 2nd Legislative District.

The new 2nd District will include the Towns of Windsor and Sanford and most of the Town of Kirkwood.

Parts of the District are currently represented by Republican Legislator Marchie Diffendorf and by Democrat Legislator Steve Herz.  Legislator Diffendorf does not plan to run for re-election.

A resident of West Windsor, Scott Baker works as an Account Executive at 3i Graphics and Signs in Binghamton. He's also an Assistant Chief of the West Windsor Fire Company and a member of the West Windsor Baptist Church.

Scott Baker's campaign will focus on decreasing the cost of County government, reducing borrowing and controlling property taxes.

"Eastern Broome County needs a conservative voice on the County Legislature", said Scott Baker. "With the exception of last year when Republicans regained the Majority on the Legislature, the previous five years of County Budgets increased property taxes and borrowing every year. And when County Executive Debbie Preston proposed cutting the salaries of political appointees by 5% earlier this year, all Democrats on the County Legislature opposed the money-saving plan. Steve Herz even voted for a failed amendment to exempt government lawyers from the pay cut. It's time for a change and I look forward to sharing my ideas as the campaign gets into full swing."
